Mary Worth Everett
Mary Worth Everett, beloved wife, mother, sister, and
friend; a former graphic design artist, Girl Scout Troop leader and pre-school
teacher died October 6 at Pelican Pointe Nursing Home in North Cape May, NJ.
Mary had an amazing life filled with adventure, humor, and
creativity. She could turn anything into an art project. She excelled in
hospitality. She went to Woodstock. She attended the World Cup, the World
Series and the Olympics. She danced in the Rainbow Room and skated at the
Rockefeller Center ice rink. She went to many plays on Broadway, including the
opening night of "Dreamgirls." She lived life well, and welcomed many
people into her home.
Mary was born on Dec. 28, 1949 in Champaign, Ill., and grew up in West Lafayette, Ind. She was the homecoming queen at West Lafayette High School in 1968.After initially attending Swarthmore College, she transferred to Colgate University, where she received a B.A. in fine arts 1972. She met Rick Everett at Colgate and married him there during the summer after their graduation. After living in Seattle for a year, she and Rick returned to the East Coast, where Mary became a graphic artist and Rick started his newspaper career. They lived in Lake Hopatcong and then Cedar Lake in Denville, NJ.
When they had their first daughter, Laura, in 1978, Mary
left her work outside of the home to care for her family and raise their
children. Their second daughter, Kate, was born in 1983. Mary was a dedicated
volunteer in the community and classroom, making sets for plays, cutting
oranges for soccer matches and making homemade Halloween costumes. When their
daughters were grown up, Mary became a pre-school teacher, a job she loved.
After Mary and Rick retired, they moved to Cape May County.
Mary loved going to the beach and attending the jazz festivals.
Mary is survived by husband Rick. She is also survived by
her daughter Kate, daughter Laura and her wife Abbi Holt, all of whom live in
Boston, MA, her sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Gary Ratner of Atlanta,
nephew Max Eddy and his spouse Leo of New York and cousin Penny Worth of
Albuquerque. She was predeceased by her parents, Willard and Betty Worth, her
sister Sally and an infant son Daniel.
There will be a service in her memory at Cold Spring
Presbyterian Church, Cape May, NJ on Monday October 12, 2026 at 1pm. Entombment
and repast will immediately follow the church service. In lieu of flowers,
