Bob Gray




Robert L. (Bob) Gray, 87, of West Lafayette, IN passed on December 21, 2011. Born February 25, 1924, he was the son of Walter L. and Alma (Gustaval) Gray. Robert is survived by his high school sweetheart LaDonna Bozworth whom he married on June 18, 1948. They have six children: Steven (wife Jill) of Indianapolis; Susan Henderson (husband Doug) of Grand Rapids, MI; Randall of Absarokee, MT; Thomas (wife Debbie) of Brookston, IN; Daniel (Sara) of Milwaukee, WI; Peter (wife Jennifer) of West Lafayette. They have 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Pryor of West Lafayette.

He graduated from West Lafayette High School, and was a pilot in the Pacific during World War II in the US Army Air Corps 9th Troop Carrier Squadron. He received a degree in business from Indiana University where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He was the proprietor of Walter L. Gray, Inc., a car dealership in Lafayette. Robert was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the VFW Post 38, Kiwanis, Scottish Rite, the Elks, and past president of the Gus Grissom Chapter 148 of the Air Force Association. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America serving on numerous district and council committees and as longtime Scoutmaster of Troop 335. He received the Silver Beaver Award and was a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow. He and LaDonna hiked Volkswalks in all 50 states and in Ontario.

Visitation will be 11:00AM to 1:00 PM with the memorial service at 1PM all on Monday December 26th at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lafayette with a reception after the service. Following the reception will be the graveside committal. Memorials can be made to the Boy Scouts of America or the donor's choice.
