Mark Finn

Mark Beausoleil Finn, age 71, a resident of Naperville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at his home. He was born on January 1, 1953, in Pawtucket, RI.
Beloved husband of Anne Leopold Finn, whom he married in 1980, loving father of Julia (Carter) Gilman, Kristin (Robert) Wining and Paul (Dan) Finn, adored grandfather of Samuel and Molly Gilman, devoted son of the late Daniel and Gabrielle (nee Beausoleil) Finn, dear brother of Dan, Beth, Bart and the late Chad, brother-in-law of Lynne (Daniel) Leopold-Sharp, fond uncle, great-uncle and friend of many.
Mark was raised in West Lafayette, IN. After an idyllic childhood with his 4 siblings, he completed degrees at Purdue University (BS) and George Washington University (MS). When his plan to become a doctor never materialized, he began his professional career with OSHA, relocating to Chicago. A certified Industrial hygienist, he ultimately completed a PhD in Environmental and Occupational health at the University of Illinois School of Public Health.
Mark worked for Amoco/BP for 32 years holding a variety of positions, lastly as the Global Head of Safety in Chicago/London. Upon retiring from BP he worked as a principal consultant for Environ, before leaving to begin his private consulting firm, FinnLP. Throughout his professional career Mark worked tirelessly to protect and promote the health of workers, while minimizing environmental impact.
He was a member and Chair of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene; an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois School of Public Health and an avid member of Triangle Fraternity.
Beyond his professional career Mark was a dedicated family man and passionate traveler. He actively participated in his children's lives, coaching soccer and participating in Indian Princesses. "With privilege comes responsibility" was a frequently heard mantra that his children hated. An eagle scout, he participated in scouting activities well into his later years, hiking Philmont with his son at age 53.
An avid sports fan, Mark never met a sport he didn't love, whether participating or spectating. Golf and football were at the top of the list, with basketball close behind. He took particular delight in organizing a fantasy football league and March Madness bracket for extended family and friends. As "The Commish" he further expanded this role to include a pool for the recent Euro Cup. He always included as many people as possible to amp competition and fellowship.
A regular member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Naperville, he was an Extraordinary Minister of Communion, a member of the Disciples of Faith choir and loved serving at the HarborChase Assisted Care Facility. As a retiree, he volunteered at the local food bank and actively mentored his fellow prostate cancer victims through the services at Wellness House, a cancer support organization.
Mark will be remembered for his ability to make a joke in any and all situations; his overwhelming desire to be of service to others; and his endless need to plan the next adventure.
Family and friends will meet Friday, August 2, 2024, 10:30 AM to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 1215 Modaff Rd., Naperville.
Interment will be private.
