Rebecca Anne Gick, aged 61, passed away on July 2, 2024, in Herndon, Virginia. Born on September 26, 1962, Rebecca, affectionately known as Anne, led a life marked by her profound contributions to aerospace engineering, her deep faith, and her unwavering dedication to her family and community.
Anne's passion for science and space was evident early in her life. She graduated from West Lafayette High School and went on to earn a Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Purdue University. Her dream of being involved in aerospace programs was realized at The Aerospace Corporation, where she balanced her roles as a 'rocket scientist' and a devoted mother.
Her superpower was relationships. She sought out, cultivated, and nurtured enduring relationships. Anne was approachable, caring, and inspirational.
Her commitment to her faith was deeply integrated into her life. She was a dedicated member of the Centerville Presbyterian Church in Centerville, VA, where she nurtured her spiritual growth and community bonds.
Known lovingly as 'the cookie lady,' Anne baked thousands of brownies and chocolate chip cookies, sharing them to bring joy and a sense of belonging to those around her.
Anne is survived by her husband, Jon Gick, her children, Rose Mary, David Anthony, and Margaret Ena Gick; her siblings, Mary Elizabeth (Dilling) Vasto, Laura Ellen (Dilling) Holloway, and Jonathan (Jon) Calvin Dilling; and her father, David Ralph Dilling. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Joanne Buckel Dilling.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 20, at 11 am at Centerville Presbyterian Church, located at 15450 US-29, Centerville, VA 20120. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Anne's memory to The American Cancer Society at donate.cancer.org.
