Roger Boyce

West Lafayette - Roger L. Boyce, age 60, of West Lafayette, passed away in his home in La Jolla, California on December 26, 2017, after an extended battle with cancer. He was born in Lafayette, Indiana November 22, 1957 to the late Raymond Boyce and Helen Hartman (Boyce) Ewing.

Roger attended West Lafayette High School before entering the U.S. Navy and going through Advanced Electronics Training. After discharge from the Navy, he returned home to attend Purdue University, graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering.

He began his career with Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas, where he lived for ten years. His field of work took him to multiple companies and included the design and testing of computer chips. In 1995, he decided to leave the hot weather of Texas and moved to La Jolla, California, where the weather wouldn't take such a toll on his love of running. Roger was an avid runner, running in over 100 races around the country, including the Boston Marathon in 1994. He loved southern California, spending the last 22 years of his life there, eventually working for General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc., a San Diego company that developed military drones.

Roger will be remembered for his caring, compassionate approach to everyone, but especially for his sharp wit and sense of humor. He could always keep family and friends laughing and enjoying his company.

Roger was never married. He was predeceased by his brother Ronald Boyce (Donna) of Lafayette, IN, and survived by sisters Rita Compton (Alan) of Frisco, TX and Rebecca Gates (Richard) of Edwardsburg, MI.

Roger was cremated in California at the time of his death, but a brief graveside memorial service and interment will be held on Saturday June 9, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette. Friends and acquaintances are welcome to join the family at that time.
