Steven Colby Harris, born on April 14, 1949, in West Lafayette, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with his health on September 10, 2025.
Steve was a loving husband to Cindy Harris and a proud father to Stephanie and her husband, Chris Rosik, Mackenzie Harris and her fiancé, Cooper Owens, and Beth McGee. He was grandad to his granddaughters, Maren and Sloan. Steve will also be deeply missed by his many friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Verndean, and his brother, Mike.
Steve's life was rich with curiosity, humor, and passion. An avid golfer, his love for the game was evident in his ever-expanding collection of clubs and his refusal to pass by a stray golf ball on the course. Beyond golf, Steve had a special way of seeing the world-he never missed a chance to capture photos of animals during his outings, sending them proudly to his daughters. Even if that meant getting too close to a gator or poisonous snake.
He found joy in spending winters in Florida with his friends and summers in Michigan on the lake. Ever practical, though, he firmly believed lake season ended in September, any later was simply "way too cold" and meant it was time to head south.
Steve was known for his sharp mind and endless curiosity. He could recall facts about nearly anything. From tying an anchor bend knot to knowing that a group of parrots is called a pandemonium. His fascination with learning and his wonder for the world never faded, leaving those around him both entertained and inspired. You never knew what fun fact he'd teach you that day.
Steve's life was a blend of laughter, knowledge, family, and friendship. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the lessons taught, and the love he gave.
Per Steve's wishes, there will not be a funeral. Instead the family is holding a small celebration of life with his friends and family.
