West Lafayette High School Memorial

 

David Broyles, age 37, a resident of Port Hueneme, CA, died June 20, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois. He was born May 22, 1987 in Silver Spring, Maryland to Steven and Janet Broyles. While still an infant, David and his family moved to West Lafayette, Indiana, where he eventually attended West Lafayette High School. He was a member of the school wrestling team as well as the competitive high school robotics team.

David graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the School of Technology at Purdue University. He subsequently was employed by various companies working in industrial robotics. His career began in southern Indiana and later took him to southern California.

If there was a memorable theme to David's life, it was robotics. As a young boy, he loved to tinker with mechanical objects, building complex Lego designs and electronics. He would disassemble and reassemble these objects with ease. It was only natural that he gravitated to the high school robotics team. He loved it so much that he continued mentoring the team after graduation. His interest in robotics culminated in a career in industrial robotics.

David will especially be remembered for his love of music, movies, the Indianapolis Colts and Purdue Boilermakers, and most of all, spending time with his pets. His love for his dog Cinco was unbreakable.

In his spare time in California, he continued volunteering on the robotics team. He served as a mentor to the Ventura High School Robotics Team.

He is survived by his father, Steven Broyles, his sisters, Kristen Budd of Glen Ellyn, Illinois and Kathryn Jackson of Matteson, Illinois, and his twin brother Alexander Broyles of Lafayette, Indiana. David was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Broyles.
