Lafayette - James Douglas "Doug" Urschel, son of the late Dr. Lewis J. and Marjory Urschel passed away June 5, 2022 at his home surrounded by family. Doug was born November 1, 1966 in Marion, IN, but moved to West Lafayette soon after and always considered it to be his home.
Doug graduated from West Lafayette Jr./Sr. High School in 1985. He then attended Purdue University until truly realizing his passion for cars. Doug had an extensive career in the automotive industry, working for over 30 years at dealerships including Coral Ford, Prestige Autos, and Sadler & Morrison, until eventually becoming a partner and forming Sadler & Urschel Auto Inc. Doug's final, and most enjoyable position, was with Defouw Chevrolet.
Doug never met a stranger, and his love for working with people superseded his love for the automotive industry. Upon his retirement he remained friends with many of his clients and would frequently visit with his Defouw family. In his retirement he continued to enjoy his love of motorcycles, Mecum auctions, and most of all his recent purchase of a brand new 2022 Corvette.
Doug is survived by his former wife Melissa "Missy" Burgess Urschel with whom he shares his pride and joy, his daughter Georgia Adelle Urschel (fiancé Zachary Kaufman) of Fisher, IN. Although they were not together, Doug was always included in all family functions and remained a central part of their family. He is also survived by his brother Lewis Steven Urschel (wife Lori), sister Gayle, and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of a funeral, we will be having a celebration of life at one of his favorite restaurants at a later date soon to be determined. Memorial contributions can be made to the Tippecanoe County Humane Society in honor of his beloved cat Nala.
