She was born in Fort Belvoir, Va., May 30, 1952, and grew up in West Lafayette, Ind. She studied keyboard music at Indiana University but transferred to Lynchburg College when her father became Dean of the College. She graduated in 1974 with a B.S. in biology and B.A. in French. She then moved to Belgium, where she contributed to a weekly French-language newsletter on economic activity in Eastern Europe. In 1981, Nita enrolled in the University of Virginia law school, receiving her Jurisprudence degree in 1984. After several years practicing law, she decided on a change of career and completed an M.Ed. at SUNY Plattsburgh in 1994, where after she taught high school science and French.
Nita's family will cherish memories of her kind heart, brilliant mind, wide-ranging interests, and quirky sense of humor.
