Monticello - Rodney Jon "Rod" DeCamp, 74, of Monticello, passed away at 2:10 p.m., Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at his home with his family by his side.
Monticello - Rodney Jon "Rod" DeCamp, 74, of Monticello, passed away at 2:10 p.m., Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born on Sunday, September 15, 1946, in Lafayette to the late Cleo and Helen Margaret (Hamilton) DeCamp. On August 30, 1969, at the St. Mary's Cathedral of Lafayette he married the love of his life, Jane Goad; she survives.
Rod had been in failing health for the last couple of years.
He and his wife, Jane, have lived in the Monticello area for over forty - eight years, coming from Lafayette.
Rod was a 1964 graduate of West Lafayette High School of West Lafayette.
He then went on to receive his bachelor's degree and master's degree from Purdue University.
Rod was an Industrial Arts teacher, having taught at the old Lincoln School and then onto Roosevelt Middle School, both of Monticello, retiring in 2013, after teaching for forty - three years.
He was a huge Purdue University Boilermaker fan!!!!
Rod loved and enjoyed tinkering in woodworking and over engineering any other projects!!!!!
The most important thing to Rod was spending as much time possible with his family and capturing everything with a photograph.
Surviving are his wife, Jane DeCamp of Monticello; son, Bret (wife Lisa) DeCamp of West Lafayette; daughter, Stephanie "Steph" (companion John Baugh) DeCamp of Franklin; five grandchildren, Nicholas "Nick" Murray, Lauren DeCamp, and Alexis "Lexi" DeCamp, all of West Lafayette, Mikayla, and Austin Baugh, both of Franklin; one great grandchild, Harper Murray of West Lafayette; two brothers, Leon (wife Kathy) DeCamp of Otterbein, and Kevin (wife Donna) DeCamp of The Villages, Florida; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Laurie Wigent, and James "Jim" (wife Dana) Goad, both of Lafayette, Lowell (wife Jill) Goad of Pleasant Hill, Ohio, Debra Goad, and Rose Mary (husband Greg) George, both of Lafayette; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo and Helen Margaret (Hamilton) DeCamp; father and mother-in-law, Ralph and Mary (Shide) Goad; brother-in-law, David Goad; and nephew, Joshua "Josh" George.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 13, 2020, at the Miller - Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello. Celebration of Life Service will be at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 14, 2020, with Father Chris Miller of the Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church of Monticello officiating.
Burial will follow at the I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery in rural Monticello.
