James Alvin Harrer, 64, passed away on August 17, 2019. He was
born on February 5, 1955 to Kenneth and Mary Jo Harrer in Lafayette, Indiana.
Jim was a very intelligent and family-oriented man. He grew up
in West Lafayette, graduating from West Lafayette High School in 1973. He attended Purdue University, graduating in
1977 with a degree in Business Management and was a member of Alpha Kappa
Lambda fraternity. Upon graduation, Jim
worked as a general manager in the drug store industry for over 40 years, with
his career moving him throughout 7 states in the Midwest, until his retirement
from CVS in 2018. Jim was a huge Purdue
football fan. He and his wife had season tickets to their games for 19
years. He also enjoyed genealogy and
became a great resource and inspiration to his family and siblings. He was
dedicated to sharing information he gathered with his family members, and
authored a book which documented his family tree over generations and uncovered
details of the lives of family ancestors.
He was particularly interested and focused on his West Lafayette
ancestry which spanned over 5 generations. Jim loved his family very much and enjoyed
spending time with them.
Jim is survived by his wife of 25 years, Kathy Harrer; his
step-children Christina Valentine, Christopher (Bethany) Valentine, and Kyle
(Elise) Valentine; his grandchildren Matthew, Jamie, Kierra, Karma, Hailey
Love, Evelynn, Lydia, Nate, Rex, and Crew; his siblings Robert (Janis) Harrer
and Diana (Paul) Coulis; and his niece and nephews Dena, John Christian, and
Christian.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until time of service at 6 p.m.
Friday, August 23rd at Sunset Funeral Home, Evansville, Indiana.
