Lafayette - Raphael Harry Short, 80, of Lafayette, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 3, 2019. He was born on April 8, 1938 in Lafayette to the late Arthur "Jack" "Short" McDaniel and Freda (Crowell) Short.
Harry graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1956. He was also a United States Army Reserve Veteran.
Harry worked at Berger Steel and Lafayette Detailing as a Structural Steel Draftsman. He began working at General Foods in Building Maintenance in 1971 and retired in 1994. Harry was an active and cherished member of the Evergreen Wesleyan Church.
He married Alfreda (Hodgson) Floyd in 1962 and they divorced in 1980. Harry married Shirley Priest in 1986 and she survives.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Short; his son, Bobby Horton; and grandson, Dustin Ellison.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Short, his daughter, Tracy Short and son, Douglas (Monica) Short, both of West Lafayette, son, Steven (Brandy) Priest and Debbie (Stan) Ellison, both of Lafayette. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Lindsey Rae Short of Indianapolis, Nicholas Short of West Lafayette, Misty Rohler and Steven Priest II of Lafayette, Zachary Horton of Florida, Jeremiah Horton of North Carolina, Shannon Priest of Lafayette, and Debra Brewer of Crawfordsville; his 6 great grandsons; his brother, Jerry (Roxie) Short of Palm Desert, CA; his sister-in-law, Linda Short of Arlington, TX; and his sisters, Carol (Terry) Blume of West Lafayette, Judy (Rene) Buendia of Seattle, WA, and Karen (Bob) Mander of Tucson, AZ.
As an avid Purdue fan, Harry was a member of the John Purdue Club and The Purdue Convocation. He enjoyed playing golf, tinkering in the garage, working in the yard, reading the Bible, family dinners and get together's, and church functions.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 8, 2019 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Chapel. Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Joe Park officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
