William Robert Freel, 70, Lafayette, died at 10:48 p.m. October 21, 2001, in St. Anthony's Health Care there.
Mr. Freel graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1949 and received degrees from Purdue University in 1954, 1962 and 1970. He taught school in Monon and Monticello; was principal at Burnettsville, Morocco and Rosedale; assistant superintendent at Morocco, superintendent and principal at North Newton and superintendent at Plainfield, Charles A. Beard School Corp. at Knightstown and Randolph Southern. He retired in March 1993.
He served in the U.S. Army 1954-1956 and reserves until October 1964. He was a member of the Methodist Church, a life member of Purdue Alumni, Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents, and a charter member of Purdue Educational Administration Alumni Association. He was active in Eagle Scouts, Pi Kappa Phi, Lions and Rotary clubs, Masons and American Legion.
He was born March 10, 1931, to Wilfred I. and Fairy Ellen McDonald Freel. He married Sally Ann Zerfas in Frankfort on April 13, 1952, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Catherine) Branscome of Yorktown and Mrs. Walter (Janet) Todd of Fort Wayne; a son, Jefferey (Karen) of Lafayette; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Goodwin Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel May officiating.
Burial will be in Bunnell Cemetery.
