Walter Potter
Walter B. Potter, 82, of Fort Wayne IN passed away on Friday, September 18 (note: 2015) at Parkview Hospital Hospice. He was born January 8, 1933 in Huntington IN and was one of four sons of Joseph and Ruth (Ewbank) Potter. He grew up in West Lebanon IN and moved to West Lafayette in 1949, where he graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1951. He married Nancy Parker in 1952 and enlisted in the U. S. Air Force, where he was stationed in France and Florida. Walt retired from Bostitch after 30 years. During retirement Walt and Nancy spent 13 wonderful years in Venice FL, where he was an active member of Venice-Nokomis UMC. He was a loving and protective father and husband, and a man of great integrity. Over the years, he enjoyed golf, bridge and traveling with many friends at Venice Golf and C.C. and Orchard Ridge C.C. In 2011, Walt and Nancy returned to Fort Wayne and recently took up residence at the Towne House Retirement Community.
Walter is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Nancy. His children: Rev. Cheryl (Jerry) Garbe of Vincennes IN, Kimberly (Rob) Hunt of Westerville OH, Debbie Pollom of Fort Wayne, Kelly (Jon) Koeneman and Gary (Mary) Potter of New Haven IN. His brother: David (Carole) Potter of Lake Elmo MN. His grandchildren: Andrew, Lisa and, Jerry Garbe, Austin and Christopher Hunt, Jennifer and Paige Pollom, Ben and Scott Koeneman, Katie Fritz, Sarah Anderson, Amy and Jacob Potter and great-grandchildren, Vera Fritz and Parker Garbe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Leroy and Marion Potter, great-grandson Christian Fritz.
Services will be held 2:00pm Tuesday September 22, 2015 at D. O. McComb and Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home 4017 Maplecrest Road with Rev. Doug Vogel, Officiating. Calling also Monday September 21, 2015 from 4-7pm. Memorials may be made to Parkview Hospice, 1900 Carew Street, Fort Wayne IN 46805 or the donor's choice.
