passed away peacefully on December 5, 2016 at the Brookdale Tanglewood Memory Care in Houston, TX. A long-time resident of W. Lafayette, IN, Linda relocated to Houston in June 2012 to be near her daughter. Born in Portland, OR on February 25, 1943 to Lt. Frederick B Morse and Eleanor Arkell Morse, Linda was raised in W. Lafayette, IN and graduated from W. Lafayette High School in 1960. She graduated from Oregon State University in 1964 with a degree in Social Studies Education where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. In 1970 she earned an MS from Purdue University in Elementary Education and Counseling. In 1986 she earned an Education Specialist degree from the University of Kentucky in School Counseling.Retiring from the W. Lafayette School District in 2007, Linda's 43-year career as an educator included 13 years as a classroom teacher in Toledo, OR, W. Lafayette, IN and 27 years as an Elementary School Counselor in Lexington, KY and W. Lafayette, IN. She was devoted to her students and always endeavored to help them achieve their dreams.
Linda held several leadership positions during her career that included the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Leadership Development Conference Co-Chair, the ASCA Middle School Vice President, and President of the Kentucky School Counselor's Association.
Linda presented many workshops that included local, state and national conferences, school districts, and university classes. She was a published author of several articles and booklets including co-authoring an ASCA award-winning book, Helping Children of Divorce. She has been honored as the ASCA Elementary Counselor of the Year and the Kentucky School Counselor's Association established the Linda Morse Leadership Award in her honor.
Preceded in death by her parents, Frederick B Morse and Eleanor Arkell Morse, Linda is survived by her twin children, Fred Schrader of Brookston, IN and Tamara Schrader, BSIM Purdue '89, of Houston, TX (wife Marcella Pennington, BS Purdue '89). She is also survived by her sister Tamara E Morse of Edmonds, WA and her faithful therapy feline, Maggie, who was constantly at her side for the last several years.
Linda was a life member of Federated Church in W. Lafayette, IN, a life member of the Purdue Alumni Association and a long-term volunteer with the Lafayette, IN local chapter of the American Red Cross.
A private interment will be held at Tippecanoe Memorial Gardens and a celebration of life will be held on January 7, 2017 in the Morse Library at the Dauch Center on the Purdue campus. The Morse family established the Fred B Morse Memorial Scholarship in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue to honor Professor Emeritus Frederick B Morse at his passing in 2004.
