Julia Trost Yake
Julia Trost Yake, age 88, of Connersville, Indiana, died at Reid hospital in Richmond on January 16, 2017, where she had been a patient recently.
Born July 24, 1928, in Lafayette, she was one of five children of John F. and Frances Small Trost. She received a B.A. degree in 1949 from DePauw University where she was a memeber of Phi Beta Kappa honorary society.
Julia moved to Connersville in September 1949 at the invitation of her sister Martha Trost for a job interview at Union Savings and Loan Association. Hired on as a teller, this became her career. After 35 years of service, many of which were served as Secretary-Treasurer, she took early retirement in the spring of 1985.
Julia was active in many clubs and organizations. She was a longtime member of Inter-Culture Club. She had been a member and past president of Altrusa service club and a member of Questers historical preservation club. For over thirty years she was a member of Fayette Garden Club, serving many years as treasurer. Additionally, she had served as treasurer of the United Fund of Fayette County, and was on the board of trustees of Fayette Memorial Hospital for two terms from 1979 to 1985. In her later years, she was active in Kiwanis Club and was honored to be named 2015-2016 Kiwanian of the Year by the local chapter.
She was united in marriage with William H. Yake, August 24, 1974. Together they traveled extensively, visiting all 50 of the United States and over 50 foreign countries. Following their travels, Julia and Bill enjoyed presenting photo travelogues for the Friends of the Library and other local organizations. They also enjoyed recreational swimming in their retirement years. In addition to travel, Julia's primary hobbies were gardening, sewing and crossword puzzles.
