John D. Miller, age 71, of Winchester, passed away on
Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was
preceded in death by his parents Gervus D and Henrietta Elizabeth Murray
Miller. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Anita Rushton Miller;
sons Mark G. Miller of Winchester, Jeffrey J. Miller (JR) of Nashville, and
Matthew H. Miller (Marie) of College Grove, TN; and grandchildren, Ben, Alyssa,
Jacob, Grant, and Sidney Miller.
An Indiana Hoosier by birth, John graduated
from Purdue University receiving a Bachelor of Science
degree in Economics. He was a member and president of Pi Kappa Phi Social
Fraternity. Following his graduation, he began a career in Human Resources with
RCA and continued with Inland Containe Corporation, Batesville Casket Company
(a division of Hillenbrand Industries), Kusan Inc., and Baptist Hospital
holding VP positions. Subsequently, he also started several healthcare
companies in Brentwood, TN before retiring.
Among his various professional and
personal affiliations, he was a founding member of CTSG in Brentwood, TN,
President of the Purdue Club of Nashville, Board Member of Franklin Girls Ranch
and Society for Human Resource Management, as well as United Way and other
Community organizations. Moving to Franklin County, John served as a board
member of Broadview Fire Department, was an active Tims Ford Council Member,
and a member of the Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church. His previous
professional career led him to help others in their professional careers as
well. He obtained his insurance license upon retirement and provided his
employees benefits and consulting initiatives for many companies throughout the
Southeast Region and beyond.
John's dedication to helping others was an
inspiration to many throughout his life. He gave of himself without hesitation
and his love for family and friends was without boundaries. He will be missed
by so many he touched.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, February
1, 2015 at Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Winchester, TN,
followed by a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 4 p.m. with Dr. Michael
