Robert E. McCormick, 87, of
Greencastle passed away Feb. 1 at Autumn Glen Assisted Living.
Robert was born Feb. 16, 1926, in
Lafayette, the son of George and Fern McCormick.
After graduation from West Lafayette
High School, Robert joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II after
which he began a career in men’s clothing. In 1952 he married Roberta
Cottingham at Lafayette. In 1954 Robert opened his first men’s specialty store
called Mac’s Apparel for Men at 16 W. Washington St., Greencastle. Since that
time he became known as “Mac” to everyone in the community. He also owned
stores in Zionsville and Crawfordsville.
Mac was always very active in
community organizations. He was a member of the Greencastle Merchants
Association, Greencastle Chamber of Commerce, Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge, Windy
Hill Country Club, Indiana Men’s Apparel Club, and Greencastle Presbyterian
Church. In his spare time Mac enjoyed golf and joking with his friends.
Robert is survived by his wife,
Roberta; son Bill (Shirley) McCormick of Crawfordsville; four grandchildren,
Rob (Stacy) McCormick, Annie (Tim) Sears, Scott Cromwell and Cari Staggs; and
three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his
parents and daughter Trudy Cromwell.
A memorial service will be held at a
later date at Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home in Greencastle.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests
donations to the Putnam County Community Foundation.
