Ruth Janette Batta, 83
Ruth Janette Batta, age 83 of Lafayette, passed away at 11:13 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at IU Health Arnett Hospital. Born July 20, 1928 in Carroll County, IN, north of Flora, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Mary E. Wise McCain. She attended Cutler Grade School and was a 1946 graduate of West Lafayette High School.
She married Lawrence L. Batta on January 11, 1947 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Lafayette. He preceded her in death on October 1, 2011.
Janette was an Agricultural Statistical Clerk for the U.S. Department of Agriculture at Purdue University for over 10 years, retiring in 1990.
Janette was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Lafayette Fun Squares, St. Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary, where she was a volunteer, and Tippecanoe Right to Life. She enjoyed reading, camping, sewing, flower and vegetable gardening, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Surviving are her six children, Marilyn King (husband, Bob) of Lafayette, Larry Batta (wife, Janet) of Lafayette, Steve Batta (wife, Tammy) of Reynolds, Jeff Batta (wife, Jan) of Lafayette, Teresa Riehle (husband, John) of Lafayette, and Doug Batta of Lafayette; and one sister, Jean Reynolds of Lafayette. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and a special friend, Cindy Batta. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 2 sisters-in-law, and 3 brothers-in-law.
Visitation from 5-8 p.m. Friday, with Rosary service at 4:45 p.m., at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with Father Jeff Martin officiating. Burial to follow at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.
