Lou
Ann Smith 1947-2007
It was great to see Lou Ann
Smith at the last reunion in 2005. I had
not seen her since graduation, and didn’t know her very well. We spoke quite a lot that weekend, and we got
some great footage of her at the Memorial Gathering, where Lou Ann gave a
moving remembrance of Mike Phillips.
Lou Ann played the organ in a
church in Texas, and created some beautiful calligraphy.
Then in February of 2007, I
received the following in a note from Steve Helmreich:
I just returned to work after a week in San Diego to find this message.
I called the 301 number and spoke with Lou Ann for a bit, and she was happy to
talk, though she was clearly a bit groggy -- she said she was getting a lot of
morphine. She is in the hospice wing of the hospital.
Lou Ann served as Dean of Central Texas Chapter (Waco) until
this year. She married last spring and moved to Hagerstown, Maryland. This
message came today from her husband, Ken Stoops.
