Charles Okley Myers (1945 - 2010)

Charles Okley Myers 1945 - 2010 Can't you just hear the laugh behind this smile? He was born in Alameda, CA. to Charlie and Hazel Myers, November 12, 1945. He graduated from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He then served four years in the U.S. Army. In 1972 he started his career as a Petroleum Engineer with Getty Oil Company in Bakersfield, CA. where he constructed and operated a 1,000,000 barrel per day water filtering and softening plant in the Kern River Field. He worked on oil and gas well drilling, well completions and workovers, steam flooding, and hydraulic fracturing throughout the Taft and Bakersfield areas. He coordinated and oversaw financial planning for the Kern River oilfield, then the 5th largest oilfield in the U.S. In 1978 he was promoted to Area Engineer for oilfield operations from McKittrick Field to Sacramento, CA. He supervised 17 engineers and technicians, scheduled work hours, resolved conflicts and determined salaries. He was instrumental in the development of the southeast Lost Hills Field where his team of engineers increased oil production from 5 barrels per day to over 5,000 barrels per day and over 25 million cubic feet of gas per day in 1 year's time. He assisted the gas department in the design of the Cross Valley gas pipeline which is the only major nonregulated east-west gas pipeline in California. He coordinated and oversaw the development of a feasibility study for 3 cogeneration projects in the McKittrick, Midway, and Lost Hills Fields. He then was promoted to Fuels Project Manager through the Texaco Inc. merger in 1982. He led a 4 man team that designed, engineered, and permitted the largest cogeneration facility west of the Mississippi River. There he managed the design, construction, and start-up of that 300 Megawatt electric power and steam plant. He successfully managed and developed a staff of over 50 to administer and operate the facility. In 1985 Charlie became the Vice President of Texaco Cogeneration and Power Company. He was the Executive Director for 3 electric power cogeneration plants with over $90,000,000 in profits. He directed the daily operations of the entire steam and electric power supply to Texaco's Kern River Field with the balance of the electric power delivered to Southern California Edison. He managed and trained over 100 professional, technical, and daily rated employees. He developed a system to communicate successful operating and financial results to Texaco upper management as well as their partners. In 1991 Charlie became the Director of Cogeneration Operations. He directed the management of 9 cogeneration facilities with over $130,000,000 in profits. He was the management committee representative for 7 electric power cogeneration plants supplying steam for oilfield and refinery operations and electric power for PG&E, Southern California Edison, and Puget Sound Energy. He managed and directed the development, design, construction, and operation of 8 cogeneration facilities in California and Nevada. Hence, he earned the title "Co Gen Man". After retiring from Texaco Inc., in 1996, Charlie then became Owner and President of Melton Backhoe and Conductor Company. He then became responsible for the entire operation of a Rat hole drilling company. He owned and operated 3 rat hole drilling rigs. He drilled conductors, rat holes, mouse holes, and built cellars for 11 oil companies in the San Joaquin Valley. In 2003 Charlie became President of Comp Mode. He produced high quality 3 Dimensional AutoCAD drawings for use in Grading and Excavation projects. Beginning with 2 dimensional drawings, he developed 3 dimensional drawings for use in Global Positioning Systems (GPS). These drawings were used to grade property without the need for grading stakes. From 2007-2008 Charlie worked as a consultant with Ramsgate Engineering. One of his projects took him overseas to Oman. In September of 2008 Charlie suffered a massive stroke. Charlie was lovingly cared for in his own home by his wife Connie and Hoffmann Hospice until his passing April 28, 2010. Charlie is survived by his wife and childhood sweetheart Connie; two daughters, Shelli Newton and Angie Fugate; son-in-law, Steve Fugate; four grandkids, Austin, Brady, Alex and Ali and sister Jean May.
