Winifred "Winnie" (Gregory) Troyer, 96

Winifred "Winnie" (Gregory) Troyer, 96, of West Lafayette, passed away at Cumberland Pointe at 9:55 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2013. Born March 1, 1917, in West Lafayette, she was the daughter of the late Prof. H. W. and May (Kilpatrick) Gregory. She was a graduate of West Lafayette High School and earned her degree in Home Economics from Purdue University in 1939.

Winnie was very involved with social activities at Purdue; she was voted Queen for the P- Men's Dance in 1938 with the honor of passing out awards to the football team, and she was the Indiana Dairy Queen for the year of 1939.

From 1939 to 1964 Winnie lived in Portland, Oregon, New London, Connecticut, Indianapolis, IN, Silver Springs, Maryland, and Galion, OH. She married William R. Troyer on Jan 29, 1943, at the Kings Chapel in Boston, MA. Her husband preceded her in death on September 13, 1966.

After returning to West Lafayette, Winnie worked as a Purdue residence hall dietician from 1964 to 1979 when she retired. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, P.E.O., AS Chapter, Kappa Alpha Theta, life member of the Purdue Alumni Association, a lifetime member of the American Dietetic Association, and volunteered at the Thrift Shop.

Winnie was always very upbeat when visitors came by, and enjoyed reading the cards and looking at the pictures especially of family. She was an avid reader of books and the daily paper. She was very supportive of Purdue University and took interest in any activities associated with the university.

Surviving are two sons, William H. "Bill" Troyer (Vicki), of St. Charles, Ill. and Robert G. "Bob" Troyer (Satu), of Salt Spring Island, Canada; a granddaughter, Holly (Troyer) Everhart (Darren), of Copley, Ohio; grandson, Matthew Troyer, of Salt Spring Island; and two great-grandchildren, Addyson Leigh and Hayden Troy Everhart.

She was preceded in death by her sister Edith (Gregory) Baur.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 1700 State Rd. 26 West, West Lafayette, on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Daniel J. Berger officiating. Memorial visitation from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Winifred's name to the First United Methodist Church in West Lafayette, or the charity of your choice.
