I only knew Phaedra as a 7th and 8th grader, since I moved away afterward. She struggled to be accepted in our school. Life was not easy for her at home. I will never forget her, and I wish I could have stood up for her better than I did. Our class was not compassionate toward kids who were different. And Phaedra was different.
