Julie Oesterle

Julia Ann Oesterle

Julie Oesterle died August 16th, 2001, in Santa Clara, California after a 13-year struggle with breast cancer.  She was 51 years of age.  Julie earned a bachelor’s degree in Social Studies from Purdue, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and Mortar Board.  She received a Masters degree in Photography from Ohio University and a Masters degree in Anthropology from Purdue.  Julie had a brief marriage in the late 70’s that left her with one child, Briana, born in 1979.  After living in Bloomington, Indiana and Lafayette, she moved to Palo Alto, California in 1992 to be near her brother, Steve, and to receive extensive medical therapy at the Stanford Medical Center.  She endured multiple surgeries that challenged her emotional and physical strength; but she never gave in and never complained.  She worked in Palo Alto doing web design as a freelance artist.  She was a very skilled photographer. Some of her work can be seen at:   Rick McGowan's Memorial
